CEO’s Corner

Thanks for visiting my blog and expressing an interest in what Plan has to say.

Marie StauntonI’m Marie Staunton and the CEO at Plan UK – through my work I regularly meet very inspiring and interesting people: children living in the slums of Dhaka trying to lift themselves out of poverty, parents rebuilding their lives after the civil war in Sierra Leone and communities working together to overcome natural disasters that have devastated their habitat.  In my role and during my travels I am constantly reminded of the many enthusiastic volunteers, fundraisers, supporters, staff and young people across the UK and in the countries where we work, all wanting to make a difference in the world.

This blog is meant to give a snapshot of the challenges, campaigns, projects and successes they face – but I am also a mother of 2 teenagers, living in London, with an interest in law and human rights so I’ll be blogging about many issues around the world.   After qualifying as a solicitor, my working life has been dedicated to human rights – running hostels for the homeless in Camden and Northern Ireland, as legal officer for Liberty, Director of Amnesty UK, Vice Chairman of Amnesty International and Deputy Director of UNICEF UK.

If there are any aspects of Plan’s work you’d like me to discuss, please email planuk.blog@plan-international.org

Hi Jayne

Thanks for visiting our blog. We’re a child-centred community development organisation and we have no religious or political affiliations. If you’d like to know more about what we do, and the countries we work in visit our Plan UK website http://www.plan-uk.org/

Hi for 2 weeks I have been the Regional President of Wales South Soroptimists, and I visited your “Because I am a girl” stand at the 75th Cardiff Conference. I was wondering if someone within your organisation could give a presentation to my friendship/study day on March 6th 2010 and if so what costings would be involved. Soroptimist International is currently actively supporting this cause. I would be grateful to hear from you with a positive view of pushing this project forward.
Thanks in anticipation
